Our little Store – under the umbrella

store

Well I have a little something to admit. I have been MIA for most of the summer, busy with kids, projects, trips and just loving time off! Thanks to my sweet girls who reconfigure, redesign and keep the boat afloat while the captain plays! But since we have been back to our normal schedule and finally to have a routine I can honestly say I love our little store. I love that I have an outlet to be creative, that people love our store and to work with amazing stylists and friends. That is what is unique about Livy Lou’s. People say that there is a sweet vibe and we will keep it that way. It’s a place to come, relax, be inspired and get pampered! There’s always new things going, new products to try and new fashion trends so come stop by. We are always so glad when you do!

Ps. The only way to get things you want is to ask. I saw this awesome umbrella in a guys side yard – I know right! But those are the best finds (other people’s things that they are NOT appreciating!)  I have wanted one for years for the store. I left a note on the door and surprisingly he said it was available! I wired a string of my fav outdoor lights and how fabulous is that! This is one of my favorite things about our store!

Whoo Whoo!

Enjoy!

Writing Desk Wednesday

Writing Wednesday
Some colors are just NOT supposed to go on certain pieces of furniture. And sad for me I didn't figure that out until I had already spent two hours on this project. I THOUGHT this would look fabulous in a bright teal, so I started to paint it and...I just didn't love it.

Now, I'm not saying that it wouldn't have turned out wonderful, because with some new funky knobs and dark glaze it would have been. But when I stood back I just didn't get that feeling. And if you are one of those people who love to design, create and re-purpose you know that feeling. It's a feeling that brings singing to my soul, it's a breath of fresh air, it's like taking a new pair of shoes out of the box for the first time! Ahhh, I love that feeling! But it wasn't like that, so frustrated with the time I had spent, I had Jack get out the sprayer and he sprayed it white...I did NOT love that either. So back in the barn it went and there it would sit for a few months. And then I found the perfect paint. What do you think?... Isn't it so much better. I love how soft it is.

I kept the original knobs and just gave them a quick coat of white paint. Look at how charming and quaint they are. And look at all that storage, man, all your papers would be so organized!

And if your stacks of paper work, all your kids cute school projects and bank statements aren't neatly organized into little cubbies (like mine NEVER are - seriously ask Jack), the beauty of this desk is you can hide all that!

This desk is available at our little store in our

Hope's Teal Chest

Hope's Teal Chest

Knick-Knacks. Treasures. Keepsakes. Keep all of your precious belongings from your past in this Teal Hope Chest. You can tell that a lot of work went into to the detailing on the woodworking of this chest and I love the unique sprucey-green teal I found to paint this amazing piece. Once again, after a little work, this piece was given another chance to charm. It looks great in our store and will look great in a loving home!

How fun are these pillows?!?

It is a beautiful piece on its own, but how awesome are the pillows in it too?! We recently started selling stunning home decor by the artist Kelly Rae and we love the character that her artwork brings to Livy Lou's. Her pillows are especially adorable with sweet sayings, birds and portraits. It matches our store perfectly and I hope that you will love it as much as we do.

Enjoy!

Spring Green Knobs and White Paint

Sweet and Solid Dresser

I always kick myself when I forget to take a before picture. I am so glad that I did with this great piece so I can share how much potential projects have when given a little attention.

This piece was in such great shape that with a little sanding, paint and 18!! yes, 18 new knobs it was given a new life and an oppertunity to shine! Take a look at what she became...

Never underestimate the power of a good paint job and spring-green knobs. This piece has 9 drawers for ample storage space for anything--clothes, toys, DVD's, you name it! My good friend bought this piece was so happy with the outcome. It will look fantastic in her home.
SOLD!

Valve Dresser

Bow front Dresser

Hello Bow Front Dresser! I love when friends and family find pieces for me to finish. My sweet Aunt no longer needing this piece, knew I would give it some life and find it a good home. This dresser has such character and I knew immediately, that all it needed was a clean coat of my pristine white paint and some water valve knobs to accentuate its detail. Jacks and mine romantic dates mostly now consist of adventures to Home Depot and Hobby Lobby where we search for the perfect knobs! It's nice he has great taste, he found these awesome knobs! Way to go Jack!

The pictures may be a little deceiving, the dresser is 28" tall. The perfect height for a TV console or a night side table!

Enjoy!

Frumpy to Fabulous Silver End Tables

From Frumpy to Fabulous!

I was surprised one day to get a phone call from a girl who was looking for two end tables and headboard for her bedroom set. She had searched and searched online and while she didn't want to spend a ton of money, she asked if I would find her the pieces and paint them silver!
After finding two potentially fabulous end tables, we discussed exactly what she wanted and I couldn't wait to get started. It's not every day that I get to paint something silver! After a little sanding and Jack tightening up the drawers, they started to sparkle with the little love and care that they have needed for so long. Aren't they fabulous!?
I hadn't had them on display in the store for an hour, when she stopped by to pick them up. She loved them and was pleasantly surprised that they were even better than she had imagined! Her reaction was exactly what I needed to hear to reignite my love of the process; finding something frumpy and knowing with some work and a little imagination, anything can be fabulous!

Lately I have loved playing around with a glazing process. I think that it gives such depth to the details of each piece of furniture. Usually I love to put new knobs on older pieces because I have realized that even a little change like hardware, has a huge impact. This time however was an exception. The original hardware, a shade of silver lighter, added an element of vintage glam!

Side Table Sink

Charming Corner Cabinet

It is always interesting to see how projects I envision in my head actually turn out.
I wish the after picture was a little better but you get the idea of how incredible this corner sink ended up.

We had a little space left in our salon and we decided to make it into a nail technician room. Clothing, hair and now nails! It's the cutest little one stop shop around!
The room is a little funny shaped so we decided we needed to put the sink in the corner to optimise space.

Two sad end tables............Stacked on top of each other...........With a sink!

Charming Corner Cabinet / Sink

Did I mention Jack was a plumber too!? This boy can do anything, I'm such a lucky girl! A few corbels, some paint and a sink from out local home improvement store and TA DA!

New techniques on amazing old pieces

Why is it that I never think to look in the newspaper for garage sales?!? This particular Saturday I was so glad that I did! My Mom and I loaded up the kids in the truck and made a list of places we wanted to go and we found this! This has turned out to be one of my favorite dressers. Isn't the hardware so sweet looking?!? I have to say it was in amazing shape and was more expensive than I usually like to spend on a piece, especially for a garage sale!

However, I have learned that you can always get a better deal if you group items together (something I learned from the show American Pickers, do you watch that show...I would definitely consider myself a picker!) So, I grouped a curio cabinet with it too, pictures of it's progress soon to come. But as for the dresser I just couldn't seem to part with it and I think the end result is well worth it.

This charming teal dresser is one that I would mind if it didn't sell!

The Twins Vanity

Speaking of sweet maple...

My Dad was raised in a home with beautiful antiques from all over the world. I can only image when he sees the trailer coming down the road, parks by the barn and we start to unload furniture that he thinks to himself..."is she REALLY going to paint that?" But what a transformation it makes. I always feel like fixing, glueing, desining, painting and waxing gives these old pieces of furniture a new life and can now be appreicated and loved for their detail by thier owners. This sad vanity went from sitting in a thrift store to finished and loved by two cute twins who share a room. Who knows how long it sat without a mirror, but I was sure glad that I had the perfect one sitting around the barn. My Jack attached the mirror and I can't help but think of two sweet girls looking in the mirror playing dress up and testing out make up for the next few years! SOLD!

The Little Red Telephone Table

The Little Red Telephone Table

I feel like authentic vintage telephone tables are so hard to find. So, I was so excited when I came across this little charmer! Once again my Jack of all trades, the husband, sanded it down, glued it up and it was ready to paint. Actually I think I'll just start calling him Jack. I am so lucky to be married to such a talented and creative man!

Once again fabric laying around proved that drawers full of random scraps are always useful! I wish the picture did justice to this beautiful textile. I love that there is always something welcoming about the color red. It was the perfect color for this Little Red Telephone Table! SOLD!

Abigail's Shabby Vanity

.

Paint makes all the difference in the world!
One of my dear friends Jamie came in to the store and had her eye on this sweet little vanity. I L.O.V.E painting pieces of furniture yellow. I almost would consider yellow a neutral! The name of this paint is Sweet maple, and I am in love. Luckily I had some fun flip flop fabric (try saying that three times fast!) just laying around waiting to be used for a project like this! Jamie immediatly knew that this vanity would be the perfect addition to her sweet daughters room! I love when pieces I love go to my dear friend's homes! Enjoy Abigail! SOLD!

Shabby Dining Set

Shabby Dining Set
I purchased this amazing table when we lived over in the white mountain area. It has been a permanent fixture in the store for the past three years. A sweet couple was up from the valley and fell in love with it and asked if I would consider selling it. I have learned over the past few years to not allow myself to get attached to pieces of furniture. So, willing to let it go I said yes. They asked if I would find six chairs and I said of course. Have I mentioned I love the hunt for a specific piece of furniture?!? So I found these sad chairs that were literally in pieces. Aren't they great?! It was like they were meant to be a set. There were five side chairs and one captains chair! Perf! Luckily I have a hubby who fixes, builds, tightens, screws and makes all my creative dreams a reality! Glue, screws, primer, paint, padding for chairs and custom ordered fabric and wha la! It was sad to see it go but I know it went to a good home. SOLD!

Isn't she amazing!?
I love the detail on the legs!
This blog is so hard to figure out!
